THE HAGS WITH THE BAGS OR IF YOU PREFER THE MEETING PLACE STATUE

Recently I purchased an Apple XR iPhone and am currently experimenting with the camera. Why this is important is my host service appears to be blocking the majority of my photographs because they are too large and it looks like I might be limited to uploading images produced using an iPhone,
I do not know why this installation featuring two bronze women and their shopping is located near the Halfpenny Bridge but I do know that it is known locally as “The Hags With The Bags”. It might even have been an advertisement from Arnotts which is nearby. I say that because of the name on the carrier bags].
It took much time and effort to discover the official name of the sculpture and the name of the artist. It is “The Meeting Place Statue” and it was sculpted by Jakki McKenna in 1988. As a matter of interest the Bronze Cow near the Jervis Shopping Centre was created Jackki McKenna … I really like it.
Jackie McKenna is known throughout Ireland for her many public sculpture commissions. For many years, until around 2005, McKenna focused on commissioned sculptures. She has done a number of sculptures in public view and enjoys the conversations and criticisms that occur as a result. She is a co-founder of the Leitrim Sculpture Centre in Manorhamilton.
